You are…

A Director of Data Science dedicated to advanced analytics and making predictive models a core component of our data products. We are looking for a candidate with a strong programming and machine-learning background, a high sense of urgency, and a curious mind. This role will oversee a team of 2-3 data scientists developing machine learning models and deploying these solutions into production. The person in this role will be expected to lead, coach, and mentor these team members and ensure the integration of predictive analytics into our business decision-making processes and forecasting processes. Success in this role depends on the ability to self-direct and prioritize multiple tasks in a high-energy, fast-paced work environment.

You will…

  • Spearhead the development of customer lifetime value (CLV) models to inform commercial decision-making

  • Guide a team of 2-3 junior data scientists, providing technical mentorship by sparring on code, exploring different algorithms, and recommending advanced ML approaches.

  • Ensure that projects are aligned with business goals and executive priorities

  • Contribute to all stages of the model development lifecycle, from conceptualization to testing and production deployment, collaborating closely with data engineering and data product teams

  • Translate complex ML data models into actionable solutions that inform strategic decision-making and optimize revenue streams across the organization

  • Play a pivotal role in integrating ML models into financial forecasting processes, enhancing the accuracy and reliability of business projections

  • Implement robust model validation techniques and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to continuously monitor actual performance against the model and improve its accuracy and effectiveness

  • Develop clear, concise documentation of modeling work, methodologies, and results, ensuring knowledge transfer and reproducibility within the team

  • Present findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, effectively communicating complex concepts in an accessible manner

Job requirements

You have…

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering or equivalent practical experience

  • 6+ years of experience working in a data science / machine learning / AI

  • 2+ years in a leadership / management role

  • Fluency in English

  • Skilled practitioner of at least one statistical programming language such as Python or R (preferably Python)

  • Proficiency in SQL

  • An understanding of both simple and complex machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts (e.g. regression, classification, clustering, neural networks, decision trees, etc)

  • Experience with the full data science lifecycle (data cleaning, feature extraction, training/testing, model evaluation, optimization, deployment, etc.)

  • Experience working on shared codebases using Github and collaborating with data engineers and data analysts

  • Ability to self-direct, manage tight deadlines, and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail

  • Inherent curiosity and desire to learn, someone who enjoys keeping up with the latest advancements in machine learning, particularly in the areas of customer analytics and churn prediction

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with the sports betting industry is strongly desired, but not required

  • Basic grasp of relational database structures and data management

  • Experience with tools in our techstack: AWS including RedShift, S3, and DMS, dbt, Github, Tableau

  • Understanding of best practices in ML ops
